Data Security and Privacy

Lou&You is all about helping people affected by domestic and sexual violence, and the people supporting them, to get better help through Lou. To do this, we’re working to give Lou as many innovative skills and tools as possible over time. Because we ourselves urgently needed safe digital solutions, but could not find them anywhere, it was clear to us that we had to take matters into our own hands. Three years later, our team is working with countless volunteers and partner organizations to bring Lou to life. That way, we create a confidant for users who not only connects people affected by violence to the help that’s available much faster, but also gives them the certainty that their data is as safe as possible.

You can find everything you need to know about data security and privacy here, so you can be confident that your data is safe with Lou.

You can trust Lou with your data. Lou always stores your data securely and protects it from others. Your data will never be shared with others for marketing purposes.

When you use Lou, you always have the right to ask Lou to:

  • provide information about which data we store about you.

  • correct all incorrect data about you.

  • delete all your data or restrict the use of your data. You can also deny further processing of your data.

  • transfer your data to you or to a third party at your request.

If you want to exercise one of your rights, simply send an e-mail to our Data Protection Officer at and you will hear from HeyData within a few days.

How we’re making sure you’re safe

  • We develop sophisticated security features to protect your privacy. Nobody else should be able to find out that you’re looking for help from Lou or anywhere else.

  • We only process your usage data, which means anonymized data about which form of violence Lou's users click on or how long they stay on a certain page. This data is not linked to their user data, for example their name, and is only evaluated anonymously.

  • And to be on the safe side, not even our entire team has access to your data, but only those who need access for technical or legal reasons.

What will never happen to your data

  • We never store data that does not contribute directly to finding the right help and resources for you. Everything Lou asks you is intended to increase your safety. For example, you do not log in to Lou with your e-mail address so that e-mails from us do not create additional risk for you.

  • We develop Lou because we ourselves know the problems that people affected have. We are a non-profit and never sell your data or pass it on to third parties. Not even when we cooperate with other research institutions.

  • You never have to worry that you will receive an e-mail, call or message from Lou, unless you have deliberately subscribed to the newsletter.

If you have any more questions about how we handle your data, shoot us an e-mail at We are looking forward to hearing from you!

And because the usage data of each individual person who turns to Lou helps us to publish the largest study on violence of all time by 2023, we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for trusting your problems to Lou and contributing to making the world a better place for all those affected by violence.
